Danielle: Meeting and getting to know Shawn and Riley was an emotional rollercoaster, let me tell you! Riley is a semi-feminist hipster who marches to the beat of her own drum, while Shawn is a “big deal” rapper, used to women chasing him, so he’s never had to work hard for female attention. When they meet, they could not have been more opposite, but even then, I could feel the pull they had to one another. It was so interesting to watch Shawn fumble through this unfamiliar territory of actually wanting a woman (but only THIS woman) in his space and to watch Riley struggle with just “letting go” and allowing herself to feel what she felt and be okay with it. As the story progressed, I experienced the highs and lows, right along with the characters. There were times when I had to remind myself that these are not real people!! These characters were so well developed that I wanted to call Riley and give her a pep talk a few times, hold her hand throughout the ordeal and I wanted to bop Shawn upside his head and hug him at the same time. This story was so compelling, to me, because I can see it happening in today’s world, so it gives some perspective to the things we see and hear every single day, where celebrities are concerned. This book was well written and edited and I can tell the author took her time to bring us a great product.
Jewel: Man!! Let me tell you…I absolutely love this book. I immediately fell in love with Riley and her fresh and confident personality. She carries a natural strength and self assurance that you can’t help but envy. Her love interest, Shawn, is EVERYTHING! I would absolutely leave my husband for Shawn if he was to ever walk out of that book. 💯 Riley is a young, black political journalist, somewhat feminist, having been raised by the ultimate feminist and Shawn is a very successful rapper, he puts me in the mindset of a handsome Jay Z with his strong composure and alpha swag. With Shawn‘s career and lifestyle, it’s clear that women will be flocking and the possibilities for “hoes to be hoes” is unmissable. The unlikely pair meet when Riley is required to interview him for the Black magazine she writes for. Their love story begins there and faces challenges that even the strongest couples may not survive. Parts of their story tore my soul apart. I was truly emotionally invested in their love and the adversity they struggled to overcome. At one point, the author’s raw description of Riley’s pain was so surreal, I was legitimately crying. However, despite the heartache, the love is genuine, the devotion is pure and the characters are memorable! This book is a definite re-read.

Jewel’s FAVORITE line from the book:
“(“ as flawed and arrogant, noble and beautiful a man as I have met. And so precious to me. So, so precious.”)“
IMO: To see Lorna publicly claim the above, it solidified the evolution of their Family in totality. The ultimate feminist has fallen in love with her son-in-law and accepted her daughter could not be whole without him.
Danielle’s FAVORITE line from the book:
“I love you too,” Shawn interrupted her. No risk, no reward. Riley smiled, her eyes becoming warm. She looked almost shy, like a little girl. “More than anybody,” he continued. “More than anything. You know that right?”
IMO: There is something about a vulnerable man that just gets me! I mean, don’t get me wrong, I don’t want NO PARTS of a soft ass man, but a good alpha being vulnerable?!?! Ooohhhh weeeee…
